Drop Off & Pick Up
Queue & The Loop
There is a limited amount of space in front of Head-Royce for pick-up and drop-off. Cars are not allowed to extend past the upper driveway during drop-off and pick-up times; detailed instructions, including diagrams, are included here to demon- strate where the queue is located and how to use the "staging area" during peak traffic times.
Drop-Off
Morning Drop Off
- Do not allow any part of your car to protrude into traffic.
- Don't pull in until there is a full car length to do so. If there is insufficient room in the queue, you must go through the loop.
- Pull as far forward as possible. Once stopped, kids must immediately exit your vehicle. There is no need to get to the front of the queue.
- Children must exit on the sidewalk side, not the street.
- Keep backpacks, instruments, and other items where the kids can reach them inside the car.
- Do not retrieve backpacks from a trunk while in the queue.
- You may park legally and walk your camper to the school.
- You may not drop off a camper of any age anywhere below the main gate to campus.
- Yield by pulling over to the right for emergency vehicles.

Pick-Up
Picking-Up Outside Designated Dismissal Time
- PLEASE NOTE - WE HIGHLY DISCOURAGE COMING OUTSIDE OF THE PICK UP TIME AS CAMPERS ARE IN PROGRAMMING ALMOST THE ENTIRE DAY. It throws US and THEM off to be interrupted mid-class to leave.
- If your child must leave outside their designated pickup times, fill out the online Head-Royce Summer Program Transportation and Attendance Report, arrive early, park legally and walk to the school. Proceed to the Sign Out Table with ID and the counselor will radio for your camper. The Sign Out Table will be staffed beginning at 2 p.m. everyday.
- If you need to pickup your camper before 2 p.m. you will need to fill out the online Head-Royce Summer Program Transportation and Attendance Report, arrive early, park legally and proceed to the Gatehouse. From there you will check in and receive a Visitor's Pass and proceed to the Summer Program’s Office to sign out your camper. This process can take up to 20 minutes total.
- Please note that the Sign Out Table is closed from 4:00-5:15 p.m. during dismissal to support the operations of the dismissal process.
- Also note that the process of picking up your child outside of their dismissal times may take up to 15-20 minutes as your child may be in the middle of a class and will need to gather belongings before proceeding to Lincoln Avenue, which can often be far from their class location.
Picking up in the Queue
- Buses will line up and be in the queue until they depart promptly at 4:45 p.m.
- The carpool queue WILL NOT open until 5:00 pm.
- Should you arrive prior, you'll need to enter the staging area (Parking Lot F) to avoid clogging up Lincoln Avenue or circling continuously. There will be no exceptions to this policy. Please plan accordingly.
- Cars pickup only on the westbound (downhill) side only after the buses depart.
- You may not have your child walk to your waiting car anywhere below the school’s main gate.
- If the queue has reached the school driveway, a monitor will direct you into our staging area located in the upper school
- parking lot. A traffic monitor will be in the lot to let you know when space becomes available in the queue.
- Do not allow your car to block traffic in the travel lane while waiting to enter the queue.
- Yield by pulling over to the right for emergency vehicles.
Helpful Tips
Below are some of the most important tips for successful navigation of our systems:
- Pay careful attention when registering to your pre-arranged pick-up of 4:45 p.m. bus service or 5:15 p.m. carpool pick up. These are NOT interchangeable. We ask that you stick very closely to these times and do not arrive early for a 5:15 p.m. pick up time. If you are registered until 5:15 p.m., your camper will NOT be in the pick-up area during the 4:45 p.m. pick-up process. If you are coming early to pick-up, you must park your car and walk to the gatehouse to collect your camper.
- The “Queue” extends from the traffic light in front of campus to the traffic light at our upper parking lot. If the queue is full, you will be asked to turn into our parking lot, complete a loop and be instructed to return to the queue by a staff member. At no time, can we have a line of cars waiting for pick-up above the light.
- NEVER double park or block traffic on Lincoln to await a spot in the queue.
- Please do NOT run over cones to position your car in a holding spot. The cones are there to protect the space outlined in our agreements with our neighborhood.
- Continue to pull forward at all times. We want to load campers into cars with the ideal spacing to assist as many families as possible simultaneously. You may have to pass your camper to proceed forward, we will get them to you - do not stop and quickly let them in.
