Joyful, Healthy Living

Scholarship, diversity, citizenship: our shorthand mission is unforgettable. But did you know our extended mission encourages "a love of nature and physical fitness"? It's true! This week, we extend a heartfelt congratulations to two Upper School students, Jared C. '24 (left) and Adele A. '23 (right) and Middle Schooler Ayumi T. '28, who epitomize joyful, healthy living.

Jared C. '24 and Ayumi T. '28 competed alongside 700 swimmers from 34 states and seven countries in this year's Alcatraz Sharkfest Swim. Both successfully swam the 1.5 miles in extreme tides and the cold, 60-degree water to reach San Francisco's aquatic park––an impressive feat of endurance. "Training hard to complete Sharkfest was a gratifying experience," says Jared. "I hope to escape from Alcatraz again but with more Head-Royce swimmers next time!”

One of the country's top high school lacrosse players, Adele A. '23 now holds the honor as the only Californian selected for this year's USA National Select Lacrosse Team (Under 16). Lacrosse is the family sport: Adele has two older sisters playing at the college level and her father is a Middlebury College Athletics Hall of Famer.

Don't miss your chance to cheer on Jared, Ayumi, Adele, and the rest of our powerful student-athletes in the upcoming winter athletics season. Go Jayhawks!
