From the Director of Advancement

I am pleased to share that our community’s generosity continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Gifts to Head-Royce School from parents, guardians, Trustees, alumni, employees, grandparents, parents of alumni and friends build the foundation for our future and allow us to provide our students with the best possible educational experience. The 2018–2019 school year resulted in nearly $2M donated in support of our School through gifts to the Annual Fund, endowment, bequests, the Heads Up Program, Nia, and the Parents’ Association Auction - Reach for the Stars. Thank you for supporting our mission through your charitable contributions. It is because of your generosity that we set a new record in the Annual Fund, raising over $1.7M and that our endowment has grown to over $22M. Our students shine because of you - thank you!

Annual Fund

It was our pleasure to serve as this year’s Annual Fund Co Chairs. Thanks to the outpouring of support from our community the 2018-19 Annual Fund was incredibly successful, raising $1,766,776 to support our students, faculty and programs! Unrestricted, flexible Annual Fund dollars support everything from competitive salaries and benefits for our faculty to student scholarships, innovative curriculum, the arts, and athletics. Your support allows us to provide an exemplary educational experience for all students and we are deeply grateful to you for making Head-Royce a philanthropic priority.

Parent Giving

We are incredibly fortunate to have a community of parents who enthusiastically support the Annual Fund. With the help of our Annual Fund volunteer team, over 82% of current parents generously participated in the 2018-19 Annual Fund, donating $1,152,920, 65% of all dollars raised! We are deeply grateful for your commitment to our students and teachers - thank you.

One of the ways we are able to achieve high levels of parent participation in the Annual Fund is because of our dedicated team of volunteers. A special thank you to Tamila & Casey Copeland, Janine & Mike Evans, and Mara & Mark Lipacis for co-chairing the Annual Fund and leading our volunteer team:

"We love Head Royce. We’re so grateful for the fabulous faculty and staff and for all the ways the School prepares students to be good citizens and caring human beings. Volunteering for the Annual Fund for the past seven years has been easy because it means asking other families like us to give back to something they love." - Kathy Huff, Annual Fund Volunteer and Parent of Chloe B. ‘20

Grandparents, Past Parent, and Friends Giving

Grandparents, past parents, and friends are an important and vibrant part of our community. Family is at the core of our community, and we are grateful to the over 200 of you who demonstrated your commitment to our students by making an Annual Fund contribution. Collectively, you donated over $129,000 and made a deep impact on the Head-Royce community.

As retired educators and grandparents of two Head-Royce Middle School students, we are impressed with the schools' challenging curriculum, exemplary instruction, and wide range of extra curricular activities that provide quality learning experiences for the diverse student body.  We support the Annual Fund Giving Program because we understand that the program provides assistance for innovative programs, scholarships and resources for staff and students alike.  Last year, grandparents donated over $50,000 to the Annual Fund.  We challenge you, our Head-Royce grandparents, to beat last year's target!

Professional Community Giving

The Professional Community is one of the hallmarks of the Head-Royce community, nurturing our students from Kindergarten to 12th grade, and instilling in them a lifelong love of learning. Thank you for once again enthusiastically supporting the Annual Fund! Over 97% of the professional community participated by making a gift to the Annual Fund. Special thanks to Jen Brakeman, Peytra Redfield, Nicole Bowler, Ian Walters, and Deirdre Williams ‘80, for chairing the Professional Community Annual Fund campaign.

Endowment & Special Gifts

Jeff and I truly appreciate the outstanding and rigorous education that Head-Royce provided to our children Matt ’03 and Raquel ‘07. Through our Martinez/Sloan Family Scholarship Fund, we hope to increase the ability of Latino students to access HRS, encourage and support Latino students as they create and navigate their paths to college and career readiness and enhance the school’s diversity mission. We hope other families will join us in this effort! - The Martinez/Sloan Family

Gifts in Honor & Memoriam

These gifts are made to recognize or commemorate a member of the Head-Royce community. We thank donors who honor or memorialized their classmates, friends, teachers and loved ones through gifts to the School.

Anna & Josiah Legacy Society

To teach at Head-Royce, I joined the faculty when my son Robert (‘86) and daughter Linda (’88) were 9th and 7th graders. They graduated, but I stayed on, loving my job as science teacher in the Upper and Middle School. Before I retired, Linda was back, first as a Lower School aide, then later as a 6th grade teacher. Now Linda Hoopes is Head of the Middle School. We have a continuing presence! Head-Royce is an important institution with alumni who are making a difference in the world. It is an honor to be part of the Head-Royce community, an honor to be a member of the Anna and Josiah Royce society. - Dr. Nancy Knop, Past Faculty and Past Parent
