At Head‑Royce, understanding the world beyond your own experience is part of the education…and for many students, that means going out to meet it firsthand.
Every year the CCE takes students to places most travelers never reach…not the tourist sites, but the conversations with local activists, community leaders, and changemakers whose perspectives stay with students long after they return. Recent trips have taken students to Berlin and Poland, Ghana, South Korea, Morocco, New Orleans, and beyond. For students receiving tuition assistance, financial aid is available once per division — because these experiences should be open to everyone.

For students who want more than a week abroad, Head‑Royce supports semester and year-long study away experiences. Through School Year Abroad, students can spend a semester living and studying in Spain, France, or Italy. Other programs, including The Mountain School, Oxbow School, and High Mountain Institute, offer different but equally transformative experiences.
Global education doesn't begin on a plane. It begins in world language classes, in curricula that examine history and culture from multiple perspectives, and in a community that brings together students from across the Bay Area and beyond. The goal is the same whether students are in Oakland or Oaxaca: to understand the world well enough to make it better.
