After-School Program Staff
Mikki Frazier, Director of Program
As the Director of Programs at Head-Royce School, Mikki Frazier manages the After-School, Summer Program and collaboratively oversees the Heads Up Program. In this role, she is responsible for the long-term vision planning and implementation for all auxiliary programs and identifying strategic partnerships between these programs and the greater Oakland community. Prior to arriving at Head-Royce in 2007, she served as the Director of Special Programs at Sacramento Country Day School where she successfully reinstated the Summer Program after a 10-year hiatus.
Mikki attended college locally at Holy Names University. During her time, she was nominated captain of the women's basketball team and served as the student body president and valedictorian. Upon graduating, she immediately pursued her graduate studies at the University of San Francisco, studying sport and fitness management. Her education, love of children and recreational/athletic background prepared her well for developing dynamic programming aimed at providing opportunities to explore interests, facilitate social-emotional growth and promote resiliency and perseverance.
Dexter Moore Jr., Associate Director of Programs / Director, Heads Up
Dexter (Mr. Moore to students) holds a B.A. in History from California State University, East Bay and is a proud native of Oakland. As an educator, he has worked for schools in Los Angeles, Miami, Alameda and his hometown, Oakland. Prior to joining the Head-Royce community, Dexter worked as the Educational Equity and Family Engagement Coordinator at Encinal High School in Alameda. In that role, Dexter worked closely with staff and administration in coordinating systems and policy to address disproportionate outcomes for minority students.
As the Associate Director of Programs, Dexter is excited to lead the vision and growth of the Heads Up program. Since 2007, he’s worked with Heads Up students as both a Program Teacher and Dean of Students. Also during that time, he developed great working relationships with many HRS teachers and staff. Dexter is also very active in the community and serves as Board Chair for Summer Search San Francisco’s Alumni Board and Director of Young Adult Ministry at his fellowship home, Olivet Institutional Missionary Baptist Church in West Oakland. As a Black boy who struggled to navigate the varying systemic barriers for underrepresented youth, Dexter often had to learn what success and manhood meant through “trial and error” and has thus dedicated his life to empowering young people, particularly young men of color.
Eben Dower, Associate Director of Programs
Eben Dower is thrilled to join Head-Royce School as Associate Director of Programs for ASP & Summer Enrichment. Born in Brooklyn and raised in San Francisco, Eben returns to the Bay Area after two years as Director of Afterschool & Summer Camp at Brooklyn Friends School. Prior to that he spent 7 years with Playworks in a variety of roles including AmeriCorps member, National Recruiter, and Senior National Trainer. He has a degree in Philosophy and K-8 Education from Gonzaga University. Eben, his wife Malaika, and 16-month old daughter Lucy are overjoyed to call Oakland home.
Natalie Huaman, Programs Office Administrative Assistant
Natalie graduated from Ohlone College with the class of 2014 with a dual AA degree in Human Development and English. She currently continues her education at California State University East Bay. While earning her degree, Natalie served as the first grade teacher's Instructional Assistant at elementary school St. Joachim, in Hayward, CA for the past three years. She has been a part of the Head-Royce Summer community for the past nine years. She has worked in multiple departments throughout her summer's here at Head-Royce, in roles such as a Sports Camp counselor, Summer Enrichment Program counselor, and Summer Program's Administrative Assistant. As administrative assistant for the Programs Office, Natalie coordinates the scheduling of enrichment programs, music lessons, billing, and communications for after-school. She is passionate about providing safe, youth-centered and enriching recreational environments for students.
Meet our ASP counselors!
Alycia Filoteo (aka Alley Kat) has worked at Head-Royce for the past three years. Along with her duties as a Head-Royce ASP counselor, Alycia is also a Head Royce student as well as Heads Up alumni and Summer Program counselor. Described as creative, friendly, and fun, Alycia especially loves folding origami with the children as well as teaching new art projects. Outside of work, Alycia spends her time participating and being active in robotics, theatre, and dance! Be sure to say hi to Alley Kat when you see her on campus!
Victoria Anklam (aka Pooh Bear) is entering her second year with our ASP team! She first joined the Head Royce community two years ago when she first started as a Summer Program counselor. She currently attends Chabot Community College in Hayward as she works hard to become an Early Childhood Development major, with the hopes of owning her own Preschool one day! The children would describe Ms. Tori as happy, fun, and helpful! She especially loves reading during story time with our Kindergarten kiddos. In her free time, Ms. Tori loves watching different tv shows and discovering new movies and music. Remember to give Ms. Tori a big high five when you see her!
Taelor Jones (aka Trophy) is no stranger to the Head Royce community! In her various roles since 2012, Taelor has worn many different hats here at Head Royce which have ranged from being a Summer Program counselor, Summer Program teacher, Summer Office Assistant and coordinator, and an ASP counselor. Because she is so bright, loving, and ecstatic she loves leading games with children and making sure all kids are having a great time at ASP. She will be going back to school at Cal State East Bay this Fall where she will be studying Biology. When she is not hard at work, Taelor likes to spend her time with her family, participating in any type of sporting activity, and cooking! Give Taelor a big big hug when you see her!
Omar Gallegos (aka Mr. Omar) is starting his second year as a counselor in the ASP program. Not only has Mr. Omar helped throughout the Summer Program and ASP program, but he has also been a lower school student who participated in the ASP program! Due to his funny, joyful, and playful nature Mr. Omar absolutely loves playing group games with the children. He currently attends Chabot Community College in Hayward where he is studying to become a mechanical engineer. In his free time he loves to play soccer, be around his friends, and spend time with his family! Mr. Omar loves hearing his name yelled at by kiddos who spot him on campus - be sure to say hi!
Joshua Crum (aka Mr. JJ) has been a part of the Head Royce community for the past four years. He has helped as both an ASP counselor as well as a Summer program counselor. The ASP children would describe Mr. JJ as funny, silly, and caring! One of his favorite activities to lead during ASP are small group games where children from different grades and classes can play together and get to know one another! He is currently a senior at Holy Names University where he is studying Business Management and Psychology. During his free time and outside of work he likes to play basketball, eat, and watch movies. Mr. JJ loves when kiddos run up to him with a great big smile on their face!
Shayla Bruce (aka Ms. Shayla) is now entering her sixth year at Head Royce! Ms. Shayla has been a part of many different groups within the larger Head Royce community. Not only is she an ASP counselor, she is also a proud alumni of the Heads Up Program, a Summer Program counselor, as well as now a Heads Up Intern teacher. Her favorite part of ASP is being able to play with kids all day long, especially capture the flag! Kiddos would describe her as funny, awesome, and silly. She currently attends Holy Names University where she aspiring to become a nurse. In her free time, she likes to play with her sister, go shopping, and get her nails done. Be sure to yell Ms. Shayla’s name as loud as you can when you see her!
Deanndra Moore (aka Ms. D) has been with the ASP team for two years this upcoming October. Children have gotten to know her extremely well as someone who is caring, playful, and of course, very tall like a basketball player! Ms. D loves spending her days here in ASP with the kiddos. She loves to incorporate new activities and arts & crafts, and loves to play a good game of hide and seek around the lower school 2-5 building. She currently attends Unitek College where she is working hard as a medical assistant. In her spare time, she loves to watch new and different movies, bake, and play different games with her daughter! When you see Ms. D around campus make sure you are ready for some hide and seek.
Chris Chandler (aka Mr. Chris) is currently on his 10th year here at Head Royce. Mr. Chris is well known around the whole Head Royce community as he has worked in many different roles. He has been a Summer Program counselor, ASP counselor, as well as Lower School substitute. His favorite thing to do here during ASP is to play a big game of Capture the flag throughout the entire lower school, including as many kiddos as possible! Described as cool, funny, and handsome (words chosen by some of our fourth graders), Mr. Chris also is a UC Berkeley Grad and graphic designer. Outside of Head Royce, Mr. Chris likes to play basketball, playstation 4, as well as creative his graphic designs. The Head Royce children, families, and community have become his family. When you see Mr. Chris, don’t forget to challenge him in a game of basketball or dodgeball!
Phillip Parker (aka Eugene) is our newest member of the ASP team! Before becoming an ASP counselor, Mr. Phillip worked in the Summer Program for two years. He loves to spend his days in ASP playing games with the kids, especially capture the flag. Because he is so energetic, easy to talk to, and funny, it is no surprise that the children have gotten to know and love Mr. Phillip so quickly and easily. Outside of work, he will be taking courses at Chabot Community College and Merritt College to become a firefighter. Some of his favorite hobbies and activities are playing lacrosse, playing board games, and spending time with his family. When you see Mr. Phillip be sure to introduce yourself and say hello!
Sentura Cruz (aka Tubby) has been a part of the Head Royce community and family for the past six years! As part of the Head Royce community, Tubby has been in a variety of roles such as Heads Up Alumni, Summer Program Counselor, Heads Up Teacher Intern, and ASP counselor. Her favorite time of the day is reading to our Kindergarten children during story time in Kinder hour! In her spare time she likes to read and engage in community discourse on societal “issues”. She is both very open, approachable, and extremely silly! When you see Tubby always approach her with a funny joke or riddle!
