Message from the Parents Association President, Fall 2009
On behalf of the Parents Association, welcome to the new 2009-2010 school year!
I
am looking forward to working with many of you this year. I first got
involved when my kids started at Head-Royce three years ago. For me,
it has been a fabulous way to meet other parents while supporting our
children and our school.
All
parents are members of the Parents Association. There are many ways to
participate – depending on your interests, skills and time. Here are
examples of activities that are driven by the power of parent
volunteers:
•
We sponsor hospitality, such as providing snacks for all-school faculty
meetings, and the parent dinner at Jayhawk Café on Back-to-School
night.
• We organize events and programs that foster
community. “Share the Care” is a new program to organize help for
Head-Royce families in crisis. The popular Global Feast, held in
January, is an all-division potluck for families to share dishes and
their heritage. Many of the speakers for student assemblies are
arranged by the Parents Association.
• We fundraise to support our school mission through Escrip and the spirited spring auction.
•
We facilitate communication between parents and the School with general
meetings on topics of interest to parents. We also coordinate the room
parent network.
How
will you volunteer for Head-Royce this year? Whether you are a new or
returning parent, I hope you will participate actively – volunteers are
the foundation of a strong community.
If you want to get involved and aren’t sure how, just drop me an email!
