2012-13 Work-Study Program

The Work-Study Program is open to Upper School students age 14 and older who wish to earn money while working during their free periods. Work-Study students receive $8.00 per hour and are paid on the regular payroll cycle, provided they turn in their completed and signed timesheets accordingly and the following required forms are on file with the Business Office:

Permit to Employ and Work (work permit)

Employee's Witholding Allowance Certificate (Form W-4)

Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9)

Photo ID and Social Security Card (photocopies)

Student Work Permits

Except in limited circumstances defined in law and summarized in the child labor law booklet, all minors under 18 years of age employed in the state of California must have a Permit to Employ and Work. A work permit shall not be issued to a minor until the Statement of Intent to Employ Minor and Request for Work Permit (work permit application) is filed with the issuing authority. Students must demonstrate at least a 2.0 grade point average to be eligible for a work permit.

How to Get a Work Permit

Head-Royce will provide a work permit for Upper School students working on campus through our Work-Study Program. Available positions are posted online and can be found in the student portal under Work-Study Opportunities & Information. Students should contact the supervisor posting the position for information about the job. Once a position is secured, students need to complete a Statement of Intent to Employ Minor and Request for Work Permit available in the Upper School office. The supervisor must complete and sign their portion of the form and it will also need to be signed by the student's parent/guardian. The completed form should be given to the Upper School Office for GPA and attendance verification. Work permits will be available from the Upper School Office within five days of submitting the correctly completed Statement of Intent to Employ Minor and Request for Work Permit.

Becoming Eligible to Work

Students are not eligible to work until all required forms are on file with the Business Office. Forms are available to download from the student portal. Once all forms are completed, students will need to bring their Permit to Employ and Work (work permit), Employee's Witholding Allowance Certificate (Form W-4), Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) and Photo ID and Social Security Card (photocopies) to Lori Koven in the Admissions/Financial Aid Office where forms will be checked for completion. All forms must be complete and submitted together at one time. Missing items will delay the process and eligibility to begin working.

If you have any questions, please contact Lori Koven in the Admissions/Financial Aid Office, x 2113 or lkoven@headroyce.org.
