Frequently Asked Questions/Tips for a successful application
We are pleased to offer the application process online for students interested in applying for Fall 2013. Submitting your application online will allow immediate email confirmation of receipt and the ability to view your application status throughout the process.
Our web site is an excellent resource for learning about the many aspects of Head-Royce. We encourage you to invest some time and make good use of our website throughout the application process. Detailed application procedures are provided for each division, including testing and Financial Aid information.
Start by reviewing the applicant procedures for the grade you are interested in applying. Open Houses, kindergarten tours, student shadow and family visits, interviews and activity day dates are listed on the Admissions Calendar. Before making intitial contact with the office, please complete the Request Information form to provide us with your information. Answers to most questions about the Admissions Process can be found at our web site. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information at any time during the admissions process.
1. When is the application deadline and how much does it cost to apply?
Lower School deadline - December 14, 2012.
Middle and Upper School deadline - January 17, 2013.
$75 application fee for applications received by December 3, 2012.
$100 for applications received after December 3, 2012.
Testing fee is included in the application fee for grades K-4.
Supporting documents are due January 17, 2013.
Please note all due dates are date items are due in our office, not postmarked. To insure our office receives items when due, plan on mailing 3-4 days before deadline date.
2. Does HRS require testing as part of the Admissions process?
Kindergarten screening is done at HRS on Saturdays in January (possibly one Sunday) and early February. Kindergarten screening dates will be mailed to applicants in late December. Please let the Admissions Office know of possible dates you are unavailable in January/February prior to December 14, 2012.
Grades 1-4 screening is done at HRS on Saturday, February 9, 2013. This is the only date and cannot be rescheduled.
Grades 5-11 take the Independent School Entrance Exam given at HRS December 8, 2012 and January 12, 2013. Register early for the ISEE online at their website, HRS does not schedule ISEE testing. Applicants may take the ISEE at any location but no later than February 1, 2013.
We will accept SSAT scores provided by parents.
3. Do you have a cut-off date for kindergarten?
Applicants to kindergarten must be 5 by September 1 the year they are entering kindergarten.
4. Do you offer extended day care?
Extended day care is provided. Please see the After School Program (ASP) brochure under Admissions Information.
5. How many students do you accept?
Kindergarten 38-54 (two to three new classes)
Sixth Grade 40-50 (three new classes)
Ninth Grade 35-45 (three new classes)
Enrollment space is extremely limited in the other grades, between 1-4 spaces per grade per year.
6. When can we visit classes?
Visits are offered from late September to January for Middle and Upper School applicants and their families.
Prospective kindergarten parents can visit classrooms from October to December.
All visits require a reservation. Please call the Admissions Office to schedule visits.
7. Does HRS offer financial assistance?
Financial Aid is offered on a need basis and information can be found under Financial Aid at our website.
8. Does HRS have a sibling policy?
Siblings meeting criteria for acceptance have priority and early decision is available for kindergarten, sixth, seventh and eighth grades.
9. When are applicants notified of acceptance to HRS?
Kindergarten through eighth grade decisions are mailed March 7, 2013.
Ninth through eleventh grade decisions are mailed March 14, 2013.
10. Does HRS consider late applications?
Applications received after January 17, 2013 will be considered only on a space-available basis.
