Meet Our StudentsWhat Did You Learn Today? (2 minute video) The following student reflections were written over a number of different years. Renata 2011 | Hi, my name is Renata. I'm currently a sophomore and I have become increasingly involved in Head-Royce over the three years I've been here. Through student council and team sports, I have gotten to know people from all different grades and have made so many memories with these people I love. Even coming in eighth grade, I felt welcomed by my peers and embraced by the faculty. The small community has given me a comfortable atmosphere to work in, compared to my large middle school. Not only do I receive the help I need from the dedicated teachers, but my fellow students are also willing to lend a hand. Because of Head-Royce, I have learned to be an effective student. Whether at volleyball practice or studying with a friend, I feel changed for the better. This close-knit community has taught me to find inspiration every day and work towards my goals until they are achieved.

Mercer 2010
| Hi, my name is Mercer and I have attended Head Royce
since sixth grade. In coming to Head Royce, I was skeptical: I had
heard about the school that had a reputation for being all boring
lectures with mindless, robotic students only focused on getting into
college. These stereotypes were dead wrong. From my first minutes at
Head Royce, I found myself learning and laughing, making friends and
being able to probe the minds of wonderfully brilliant teachers in a
safe and fun learning environment. Boring lectures are kept to a
minimum, while interest and enthusiasm are kept to a maximum. As for
getting into college...it's certainly on kids' minds, but that is the
same as you'll find at any high school! Overall, Head Royce has been a
wonderful and wildly educational experience. |
Brian 2014
| Hi, my name is Brian and I'm in seventh grade. I entered in the sixth grade, and my
transition to the school was very smooth. During the first week of
sixth grade, we went on a two-day "Fall Out" trip to Westminster Woods.
It was a terrific way to get to know my new classmates and teachers. At
Head-Royce, your entire class goes on two fun trips every year from
sixth grade on. There is a
great academic environment here, where students and teachers learn from
each other. The teachers are amazing, and classroom discussions are
interesting and engaging. Classrooms are dynamic with lots of energy. I
particularly like my math and science classes, but I am challenged by
all of my courses. The Head-Royce teachers are committed to helping you
grow as both a student and a person. The environment at Head-Royce
allows you, and encourages you, to love learning. |
Jackie 2009
 | Hi, my name is Jackie. The past four years that I have spent at Head-Royce have been filled with some of the most memorable times of my life. The transition from one small private school to another, slightly larger school was one easy step that I do not regret taking. I was quickly welcomed into the Head-Royce community from my first day on campus. I have been able to pursue all of my interests, both in and out of the classroom. My passion for volleyball has continued to grow thanks to the incredible volleyball program at our school. In 2006, our team won the BCL-East league championship and this year we are pursuing an even greater goal of NCS champions. Inside the classroom, the small class sizes and passionate teachers have enabled me to not only learn the curriculum, but also gain an even deeper understanding of it. My classes and membership in the Latino Club have also helped me to become more culturally aware. I know that after my experience at Head-Royce I will emerge as a well learned, global citizen, all due to the support and encouragement that I received along the way.

Vanita 2013
| Hi! My name is Vanita.
This is my second year at Head-Royce and I am in Middle School. I chose Head-Royce
for a few reasons. When I visited, everyone was so welcoming
and nice. They went out of their way to include me and talk to me. The
classes were challenging and exciting, and I was never bored. The
teachers seemed great and the students looked like they were having so
much fun. The school just felt like a fun place to learn. Now
that I am here, I still find it just as exciting and engaging. I have
made friends and I am enjoying all my classes. Reading, writing, and
playing the piano are things that I enjoy very much and there is so
much opportunity to do it all. I am looking forward to the years ahead
at Head-Royce. |
Hugh 2009 | Hi, my name is Hugh I am currently a senior in the Head-Royce Upper School. I came to Head-Royce in seventh grade and left for my sophomore year to spend a year abroad in Greece. I have enjoyed my time at Head-Royce and am especially grateful for the learning environment it provides.
I came from a rigorous Episcopal school in Georgia and the transition to the more liberal middle school could not have been easier. All of my teachers were very approachable and I made friends quickly. The move to the high school was even better. There were so many opportunities I wanted to pursue and so little time to do them. By choice, I never had a proper “free period,” because I was always doing something. All my lunches were spent in clubs, selling food, or in student council. There was always an activity that I could be a part of. I love the flexibility and willingness of all the teachers and administration. Everyone here is doing their best to help you succeed. |
Julia 2011
| Hi, my name is Julia and I am a sophomore this year at Head-Royce School. The faculty encourages participation and risk-taking in classroom discussions. There is no such thing as a dumb question. The upperclassmen in my drama and chorus classes inspire me with their talent. I have a part in the Fall play this year, and am learning so much from my Drama teacher, Ms. Ray, and the student directors. I am also a member of the school chorus and am fortunate to be taking private voice lessons on campus once a week.
Finally, my friends and I are forming a Barbershop octet, and Mr. Wells, our chorus director, has offered to help us get organized. These are just a few of the activities that I have jumped into during my first few months at Head-Royce. High School is a time to explore one's interests in life and the Head-Royce community provides the nurturing foundation required to tackle new challenges.

Daija 2008
 | Hi, my name is Daija. I entered Head-Royce in ninth grade and am now a senior. Head-Royce
is a place where the natural talent and potential of the individual
student is enhanced. There are innumerable opportunities for us to
shine and make our accomplishments known. Head-Royce
has provided me with an environment conducive to learning and an
atmosphere of academic support and encouragement. I appreciate every
chance that I have been given to expand in my academic abilities and I
know the importance of using what I have gained to build my future.
The School has given me a sense of pride and confidence and I have
learned so much! |
Camden 2008
| Hi, my name is Camden
and I am a senior at Head-Royce School. I have been a student here
since kindergarten. Many people find it hard to imagine being at the
same school for so long, but I can’t imagine anywhere else I’d rather
be. There are countless reasons why I love Head-Royce, but two stand
out in my mind: the teachers and the strong sense of community. At
Head-Royce, teachers in every department are passionate about their
subjects and care deeply for their students. The small class sizes
allow for a learning environment where everyone is actively involved
and individualized instruction can be practiced. Classroom discussions
are engaging and exciting.
Our teachers and administrators
participate side by side with students in all aspects of campus life.
Parents and families are encouraged to be active and involved as well.
Education goes beyond the four walls of the classroom as we all learn
to be respectful and supportive of one another, our school, our
surrounding community, and beyond. Because of Head-Royce, I have
developed a passion for learning that I know I will carry with me
throughout my entire life. I will leave the School confident and eager
to meet whatever challenges may come my way.
