Curriculum Mapping Mission Statement

Curriculum Mapping: Mission and Goals
Our goal in undertaking curriculum mapping is to articulate the Head-Royce curriculum from kindergarten to twelfth grade in all subject areas. By formalizing our scope and sequence through mapping we will improve collaboration among faculty and provide an additional tool to assess and strengthen our academic program. Ultimately, mapping helps us ensure that students will have a consistent academic experience.

Specific goals include:
1. Improve vertical coordination K-12: Mapping assists us in analyzing content and skill progression from the Lower to Middle to Upper divisions.

2. Strengthen horizontal coordination: Mapping allows us to examine what we teach, why we teach it and how we assess it. It also provides groundwork for on-going curricular discussions and meaningful collaboration.

3. Design, develop and reflect on curriculum
: Mapping allows teachers to articulate and refine their teaching plans.

4. New Teacher Tool: Curriculum maps provide new teachers with road maps for their courses and connect them to curriculum and faculty within the division and others at their grade level.

5. Understand the K-12 Picture: Mapping gives us an accurate and dynamic picture of our school’s entire program. It allows us to see what we do within and across divisions, between departments, and provides a tool for school-wide curricular analysis and change.

6. External Communication Tool: As we consider sharing our program with outside constituents, mapping makes our program transparent to parents, potential applicants and others interested in our school—we can show off what we do well!
