Students come from Berkeley, Oakland, Alameda, Orinda and over thirty other communities in the East Bay and beyond to attend HRS. We also enroll international exchange students in the Upper School.

The faculty and administration of the school consists of 124 people with 124 baccalaureate degrees, 60 master's degrees, and 8 doctorates. The student faculty ratio is 9:1.
DAILY SCHEDULE
The School follows a semester system which includes a winter break, February break, spring break and a summer vacation.
In the Lower School, kindergarten meets from 8:25 am to 2:00 pm and grades 1-5 meet from 8:25 am to 3:20 pm. The After School Program is available for Lower School students until 6:00 pm each day that school is in session. Kindergarten tuition includes the After School Program between 2 and 3:20 pm each day.
In the Middle and Upper Schools, classes meet four times each week from 8:25 am to 3:20 pm, Monday through Friday. Each class meets for a total of four times each week: three times a week for 45 minutes and one long block of 90 minutes.

In the spring of 2012, 222 students took 409 Advanced Placement tests in twenty-four subjects. 90% received scores of 3 or higher.
The Class of 2012 had 23 National Merit Commended Students, 4 National Merit semifinalists, and 4 National Merit Scholarship winners. There were also 2 National Achievement Scholars in the Class of 2012.
