Welcome From The Head of School

Welcome to our website. I invite you to explore Head-Royce School virtually and learn more about our distinctive community of learners and educators.
Founded in 1887, this year we are celebrating our 125th year of inspiring students and shaping generations of leaders. I am proud that we blend historical traditions of excellence with a dogged determination to provide all our students with an experience that will serve them well, today and tomorrow. Great schools do not sit still, nor do we stand for complacency. Our faculty is always asking, “What’s next?” “How can we use current research, thinking and technologies to teach in more effective ways?” "How do we most effectively prepare our students to shape and thrive in the 21st Century?"
At our core lie three central tenets to our mission: Scholarship, Diversity, and Citizenship. Within these values are several areas that we feel are essential tools for the educated, ethical global citizen living in the world today: Globalism, Ethics, Environmentalism, Sustainability, Creativity, and Leadership. Throughout this website, you will see powerful examples of how we tend to these concepts to help our students grow, nurture, explore, learn and create.
Our faculty is truly world-class. They come from a wide range of academic and geographical backgrounds. Their diversity of perspective and thought, coupled with their subject matter mastery, uniquely positions them to serve each and every student across our K-12 setting.
At Head-Royce, there is a joy in the learning process that makes this more than just a college preparatory school. We are a place that shapes future leaders. We are a model school that others emulate. And our educational exemplar transforms lives.
If you are a prospective student or parent, or if you are already familiar with Head-Royce School, please spend some time exploring this site.
Always a student, I learn every day. To learn, I listen and observe. To that end, I would love to hear from you. You can contact me directly via email: rlake@headroyce.org or by phone: 510 228 1515.
