Giving to Head-Royce
Ways of Giving Brochure (PDF format)Head-Royce Annual Fund :: GOAL $825,000
The
Head-Royce Annual Fund is our top annual fundraising priority because it helps
close the gap between tuition and the increasing cost of operating the
School. It provides vital flexibility in
order to direct resources to the areas of greatest need and maximum
benefit. With your help we are able to
employ and retain truly gifted faculty, maintain extraordinary facilities,
create extracurricular activities throughout the year, and fund more than 150
need-based scholarships that ensure the School’s socio-economic diversity.
Current and
past parents, alumni, grandparents and friends of the Head-Royce community are
invited and encouraged to help sustain the School by supporting this important
fund each year. All gifts, large and
small, directly benefit current students.
Heads Up :: GOAL $175,000
Heads Up is
the cornerstone of the programs that support Head-Royce’s effort to promote
civic purpose and help create a broader community of academically prepared,
high achieving, socially responsible youth.
Established in 1987 as a partnership with the Oakland Unified School
District, Head-Royce is home to this rigorous, year-round academic enrichment
program for approximately 90 motivated, underserved public school students who
receive full scholarship to the Summer Enrichment Program at Head-Royce. Heads Up serves youth in grades 6-8 for three
consecutive intensive summer sessions and provides ongoing mentoring and academic
support during the school year. You can
help this essential program by making a gift to Heads Up.
The Endowment Program :: Ongoing support
We view
annual fund gifts as “money to live by” and endowment gifts as “money to grow
by.” Growing the Head-Royce endowment continues
to be among the top priorities set by the Board of Trustees. Because the endowment’s principal is invested
in perpetuity, the School receives its support from an annual distribution of
earned income from each endowed fund. These dollars benefit the fund’s designated
purpose. Donors may contribute to the
general endowment or direct their gifts in a variety of ways, such as student
scholarships, faculty professional development, facilities and technology.
Class Funds
Graduating
classes since 2003 have created individual class funds during senior year in
support of the Head-Royce endowment.
Alumni and their families from these class years have the opportunity to
make ongoing contributions each year to these permanently endowed legacy funds.
>The Senior Class Fund :: GOAL $75,000
We ask
senior class parents to contribute to the Senior Class Fund in honor of their
graduating child. Senior parents with
additional children at Head-Royce are asked to divide their gift equally
between the Head-Royce Annual Fund and the Senior Class Fund. We ask each senior to participate with a gift
to the class legacy fund.
Paul Chapman Campaign for the Future ::
GOAL $260,000
Now
completing his 26th year at Head-Royce, Paul Chapman will retire in
June 2010. In his name Head-Royce will
launch a special, academic-year campaign to raise $10,000 for each of the 26
years that Paul has been at Head-Royce. The
fund will support endowed student scholarships.
Gifts to any scholarship endowment fund received by June 30, 2010 will
count toward the Campaign. In the
current year, Head-Royce is providing $2.4 million to 157 students on
need-based scholarship. Funds raised
through the Campaign will grow the School’s scholarship dollars in order to
attract the most qualified students who otherwise could not attend Head-Royce.
As Head of School since 1984, Paul
has devoted his professional career to cultivating the growth and development
of Head-Royce School, enriching the knowledge, world view and intellectual
curiosity of two generations of Head-Royce students. During his tenure, the School has grown from
550 to 800 students; has embraced scholarship, diversity and citizenship as its
core values; and has motivated students to be thoughtful and responsible global
citizens. Under Paul’s inspired
leadership, the School built new Lower School and Upper School buildings, the
World Languages Building, the Read Library, the athletics facilities and Pavilion
and fully renovated Mary E. Wilson Auditorium and main classroom building to
create a beautiful Middle School facility.
Over the past quarter of a century, Paul Chapman has inspired, guided
and stewarded three decades of Head-Royce students.
Auction :: GOAL $125,000
The School’s
largest benefit event is the annual Parents Association auction. Individuals from throughout the School
community are invited to donate and purchase auction items; provide corporate
underwriting; and serve on the auction planning committee. The Head-Royce Parents Association encourages
all parents to become actively involved in the Association’s various activities.
Events
Throughout
the year, you will be invited to participate in other fundraising events, such
as the Heads Up Big Night Out, the NIA Speaker of Color Lecture and various
alumni events.
