Learning Differences Network
|
The Learning Differences Network (LDN)— established by Head-Royce parents in 2001—provides a supportive forum for lower, middle, and upper school parents to discuss topics pertaining to learning and attention differences, and provides opportunities to share personal experiences and resources within the broader East Bay community. The LDN works collaboratively with the Head-Royce faculty, administration, and Board of Trustees.
The LDN holds several school-wide meetings each school year. At these gatherings, the LDN frequently hosts speakers on topics of interest to all Head-Royce parents. Past topics include the writing process, foreign language acquisition, college admissions, prescription medications, homework strategies, executive functioning, assistive technologies, and emotional issues. The school’s administration and learning specialists join these meetings, fostering communication between the school and the parent community. The LDN believes that increasing awareness, knowledge, and understanding of the challenges facing all students—including LD students —improves our ability to successfully support the entire student body.
In addition to the LDN’s regular meetings, the members of the steering committee are available year-long to meet with parents individually. The committee members of this network have experience parenting children with learning differences through the various divisions of the school. They can provide insight into how to create a supportive partnership between the school and the home.
This year, the LDN will again host it’s signature event, a panel of upper school HRS students with learning differences, who will share stories about their academic journeys. It is an event not to be missed.

The LDN also proudly promotes the efforts of the Upper School’s Amazing Minds Club, the student group that welcomes, engages and supports all types of learners. One simple way the LDN can help this important student group to flourish and grow is to provide lunch or snacks at the club’s monthly meetings. If you are interested in assisting LDN on this front, please contact Joelle Stallone.
