Head-Royce in the Community
At Head-Royce we recognize our school has a significant role to play in helping our community be the best it can be. We do this in many ways -- from our school’s mission focused on scholarship, diversity and citizenship -- to being a good neighbor in the immediate area -- to active programs that promote diversity and inclusion -- to our standing tradition of fundraising, volunteerism and our Heads Up program.
Both on-campus events and participation in off-site events instill in students and faculty the sense of community outside our own doors. Head-Royce is proud to be a long-standing sponsor and participant in Oakland events such as the Dimond District Fest, Oakland Running Festival and Marathon and the Oakland PRIDE parade.
We also place a high emphasis on Community Service for our students, which is integrated into our K-12 curriculum as a mandatory element to our overall program at each grade level. Our student-driven Community Service Board help us identify opportunities for students in grades 9-12. Recent trips have included Upper School tutoring at BAHIA (Bay Area Hispano Institute) School, Middle School clean-ups at Lake Merritt and Lower School fundraising efforts in partnership with the NFL supporting kids in need throughout Oakland.
