Life at Head-Royce

From book groups and happy hours to weekly yoga and boot camp classes, faculty members engage with each other inside and outside the classroom, as peers and as friends. We have more than 155 faculty, staff and administrators across the school’s three divisions. Faculty members contribute to the life of the school in areas aligned with their areas of personal passion, including cultural associations, sustainability, arts and athletics.

Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive compensation package — including medical, dental and vision insurance and generous retirement program — as well as extensive resources for professional development. We are a community of learners and strongly support faculty members who want to explore new techniques, deepen their knowledge or collaborate with peers on interdisciplinary programs. That’s why we commit significant resources to funding conferences, advanced education and other unique professional opportunities. More than 20 endowed funds support teaching excellence and academic innovation.

Exciting Future

Continually improving the educational program allows the school to uphold its innovative spirit while forging the path forward into the next century. Our vision for the school’s next 10 years preserves all that is good about Head-Royce, while redefining our campus, curriculum and access and affordability program so that current and future generations of students are prepared for lives of purpose and meaning.

We are fortunate to have completed a once-in-a-lifetime land acquisition. Having recently purchased approximately eight acres of land directly across the street from our current campus, we are embarking on the creation of a master plan that will be inspiring for decades to come.

Employee Perspectives

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to have gone to People of Color Conference and deepen my personal understanding and passion for supporting equity and inclusion in our independent school network. I pledge to keep an open mind, heart and door to facilitate and participate in the work of equity and inclusion and foster authentic and purposeful work with our students and fellow colleagues.”
-Leslie Powell, assistant Lower School head

“I am forever grateful to the incredible faculty that teach our children. I have never worked with a more dedicated group of teachers who are constantly pushing themselves to be top-notch educators. This school is not the place where teachers go to sit in their comfort zone and teach the same way year after year. It’s a place where thinking outside the box, making waves and trying new things (even when they don’t work) are celebrated.”
-Debra Carr, first grade Teacher

"As a teacher new to Head-Royce, I benefitted from the ideas shared in this seminar to establish a new approach to teaching. Specifically, I was able to implement numerous ideas shared in this workshop as I established the culture of my classroom within the Head-Royce framework. The workshop allowed ample time for the participants to process the information, collaborate with each other and give feedback to the leaders.”
-Kate Gaffney, former Middle School math teacher

"To folks outside of the profession, I can imagine that such close examination of professional practices could be somewhat dry, but the ability to immerse myself so deeply at the Libraries in the Digital Age conference was an enormous gift and one for which I will long be grateful."
-Mary Goglio, Upper School Librarian
